Ngederrak Conservation Area is a Marine Protected Area (MPA) located in Koror State, Republic of Palau. This MPA was designated as such in 2001 by the Koror State legislature, prohibiting any taking of marine flora or fauna within its boundaries. Ngederrak MPA also serves as a no-entry zone and covers a total area of 5.8 km2, situated in close proximity to Malakal Harbor in Koror State. The OA observing system was deployed within the Ngederrak MPA in January 2018 at Koror-K1 station as part of a joint effort between the Palau International Coral Reef Center (PICRC), the Korea Institute of Ocean Science and Technology (KIOST), and Koror State, under the OceanAid project funded by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries of the Republic of Korea. The installation of this OA buoy, along with other OA-related research activities conducted by PICRC will help Palau to have better picture of OA phenomena in their marine system and allow better understanding on the impacts of OA on its marine resources as well as have basic reliable scientific base to develop strategies to address this issue.
