The Argo Program is a global collaborative observation network that was initiated in 2000 under the auspices of the JCOMM (WMO/IOC) of UNESCO. It aims to monitor the world's oceans in real time. More than 30 countries participate in this program, using Argo profilers (free drifting profiling floats) to collect internal oceanic information.
The Korea Institute of Ocean Science and Technology(KIOST) has been participating in the International Argo Program since 2001. we have expanded its monitoring areas to include not only the seas around Korea but also the Antarctic and North Pacific Oceans, deploying a total of 132 Argo floats.
The data from these deployed Argo floats are processed in real-time and go through a delayed-mode quality control system, in accordance with international quality control standards. The processed Argo data is then shared with the Global Argo Data Center (GDAC).
